Representing London On A Worker's Wage

In town halls up and down the country councils are voting through millions of pounds of cuts to jobs, vital public services and welfare provision. Londoners are being hit hard by these cuts, with some of the poorest London boroughs facing the deepest cuts.

Councillors who were elected to defend the interests of working class communities, to represent the poorest and most vulnerable in our society, are failing in their duty and instead are voting through devastating cuts budgets at the behest of a Government with little democratic mandate. Meanwhile, politicians and the banking establishment continue to receive salaries and bonuses which are far beyond the expectations of many people who are facing losing their jobs, their homes, their health and well-being.

The people of London deserve better.

I believe that the people of London deserve to be represented by people who will fight to defend their interests. By people who understand the hardships they face. By people who are not removed from the reality of everyday life for the majority of Londoners.

This is why, should I be elected to the London Assembly, I pledge to take no more than an average worker's wage.
